Abstract
To support quality of service (QoS) in wireless networks, several medium access control protocols including MACA/PR . Multiple Access Collision Avoidance with Piggyback Reservations . have been proposed. In this paper, we present, specify, and implement a modified version called MACA/PR*. This version contains improvements to solve the carrier sensing problem and the acknowledgement problem, which are identified in the paper, as well as extensions for multicast QoS support and unacknowledged transmission. Furthermore, we elaborate on an SDL design specification of MACA/PR*, and its implementation on top of an existing IEEE 802.11b WLAN device.
